Michael Hinton is a visual artist and art teacher who works with Christian Freeman and possesses a wide range of experience making and teaching art. He holds a professional teaching license as a visual art specialist, as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art and a Master’s degree in art education from the University of Tennessee. Michael is passionate about teaching art. He approaches it as an avenue to creative self-actualization and personal discovery. By immersing his students in art making that is self-expressive, lyrical, and satisfying they learn to value the process of making art as much as the art itself. He has taught K-12 visual art and art history for over 15 years, mostly in middle Tennessee public schools, and then more recently at Hiwassee College with the Upward Bound program. He instills in his students a sense of wonder and excitement about art history and art appreciation, while prompting and nurturing their creative spirit throughout their art-making experience.
